Ayurveda
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘knowledge of life’ and it is a complete holistic medicine system which helps prevent disease in the body and mind. Originating in India approximately 5000 years ago from wisdom ‘discovered’ by enlightened seers or Rishis. It has been practiced continuously since then and is just as relevant today as it was then.

Are you struggling with a health issue that you feel conventional medicine is not really helping? Do you know intuitively that there must be more you can do to help yourself but feel confused by the array of information out there? I felt the same. It wasn't until I had my first Ayurvedic Consultation that it all started to make sense....

Health concerns I can help with:

-
Digestive issues such as IBS, Crohns, Acid Reflux, Constipation
-
Skin issues such as Acne, Eczema, Rosacea, Psoriasis
-
Emotional issues such as Anxiety, Depression, Hyperactivity
-
Menopause, Menstrual and Reproductive issues
-
Other issues such as Insomnia, Cystitis or healthy weight balance.

What to expect from an Ayurvedic Consultation?

Initial Consultation - This first meeting will involve asking you lots of questions about your current and previous health, diet, lifestyle, relationships etc. I will start to build a picture about you as a whole. Since Ayurveda treats the person rather than just the disease, it is to understand how you are currently out of balance with your environment and the root cause/s for that which has led to the symptoms.

Second meeting - This meeting will feedback the nutrition and lifestyle recommendations based on the initial consultation along with any beneficial herbal preparations. I will then provide you with a food chart along with any suitable recipes.

Herbal preparations - I will explain fully how to take any recommended herbal powders (choonas) or medicated oils and also how to make any remedies at home using spices. The choonas and medicated oils are supplied by a safe and trusted manufacturer in Sri Lanka prepared by traditional methods. These can only be purchased by Ayurvedic Practitioners and it is recommended not to purchase herbs online as the source can be unreliable and sometimes of low quality. There is an additional cost for the herbal preparations, the choonas are £11.50 for about a months supply, tablets are £16.50 for 60 and the oils are £13 for 100ml bottle.

Beyond the initial consultation - Ideally a follow up consultation will be 3 – 4 weeks after our initial meeting and I can ask how things have changed for you and whether any changes need to be made to your personalised plan.
Please remember that Ayurveda is not a quick fix and it will require you to make changes to your diet and lifestyle if necessary. This is not always easy, I appreciate, but it is an empowering step towards true health.
